Really good article! I think your ten items would form the foundation of a solid marketing program for just about any small business. The article is especially appropriate for a blog because it opens a lot of doors for discussion. For example... as a person who's an SEO specialist for a web site development company, I have to take issue with what you said in item #3 about "possibly" starting a web site. Obviously it depends on the target audience, but I believe that having a business web site is essential and expected. It helps build confidence in customers and prospects, and often plays a role in facilitating sales. Of course, like anything that conveys an image, a web site can also work against you if it's not professional looking, organized, and well written.

Anyway, what I got out of your article is that effective marketing is about building relationships, communicating clearly and confidently(with yourself and others), and keeping marketing in the forefront of your mind so that you never miss an opportunity to establish a client relationship or a strategic alliance. Possibly a topic for another article is the need to blend time management with relationship building, because there's "productive networking" and then there's "time-wasting networking". It's a skill that has to be cultivated and developed, like any business or communication skill.
